Hi,

I use Linux exclusively since SuSE 5.3 came out (that was last century!).
Though it could be sometimes tough, I liked the improvemenst Linux made at every release of SuSE. The disavantage of SuSE was that so many unnecessary services are started.

When hoary came out, I first scanned this list for comments, success stories, etc for about 6 weeks and decided to give Ubuntu a try after testing out the LiveCD. The LiveCD recognised all my hardware: I had sound (N/A in SuSE), it made my WIFI card work (N/A in SuSE), so the day after these tests, I switched to Ubuntu and installed also the kde-ubuntu package. That I did regret because too much KDE stuff I do not use was installed. So I reinstalled Ubuntu and only selected the packages I want from KDE, eg. Kile for which there is no Gnome equivalent. I am very pleased with Ubuntu and even tried to contribute financially, since I always bought the SuSE CDs. But I could not get the paypal activated using firefox, so if there is another way to contribute a small donation, just let me know.

I also like very much the regular upgrade, I had no major problem upgrading to breezy and hope it will work similarly for dapper.

At home I have some old PCs for the kids, they run XUbuntu. No glitter Windows games, but even under windows, those boxes are unable to play games. I just leave them with the PC and it remains stable. My son says that OpenOffice is the same as Word for which he gets courses at school.

So thanks very much Mr Shuttleworth and the Ubuntu team ...
