Dell Latitude C610 Mouse Problem

Greetings,

I just installed Ubuntu 5.04 on a Dell C610 Latitude. The mouse just runs
all over the screen without my help, and I can occasionally use it to
accomplish something. How can I get control of this mouse? Again,
sometimes it seems to be working properly. In fact, this problem only
appeared this afternoon When I began to actually use the laptop. After
the initial installation, it appeared to be fine. But as I began to
change the screensaver, add contacts in Evolution, etc., it has become
quite annoying.

The Dell has both a stick and a glidepad. The video card is ATI Mobility
Radeon. The Mouse option in the BIO is set to switch between the Touchpad
& the PS/2 mouse, if connected. I am not using a PS/2 mouse, though I may
try that this evening.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
