And besides which, you're going about this wrong.  You're trying to use
i855-crt from source, aren't you?  Install it via aptitude/apt-get/synaptic
(they're in the universe repository) and you don't need to move anything
into /etc or /usr/local (given your level of knowledge of Linux, you
should, at this time, have _nothing_ in /usr/local - ubuntu will never
install anything there).
