Depending on how old and damaged the vinyl is, it may have a lot of 
noise.  You may want to investigate gnome-wavecleaner (gwc) for 
cleaning up the audio before burning to DVD (CD?).  The gwc package 
can be installed via apt-get (or synaptic) from the universe repository.
