sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx

once completed,

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

say yes to "attempt to autodetect hardware" and use the down arrow to
change nv to nvidia, work your way through entering the video ram and a
few other odds and ends when asked, save, exit and reboot.
