Problem compiling module

I've got an ITE8212 IDE controller card in my Ubuntu 5.04 64-bit system.
So I need to compile a new driver.

I've installed the kernel source code.

I've uncompressed it into a /usr/src/linux tree.

I've copied the kernel 2.6 versions of iteraid.c iteraid.h and Makefile
files into /usr/src/linux/drivers/scsi and edited the first line of the
makefile to point at the source tree.

Running make generates screens full of errors. Before I try posting the
output of the make command here can anyone suggest some things I should
try?

I know that the same source files compiled without errors on a SuSE 9.2
64-bit system, if that helps. That was the first time I compiled a file
on Linux, I think it lulled me into a false sense of security.
