You don't mention what kind of laptop you have. Try going to this
page (http://tinyurl.com/7ru8a) and see if there is a heading for
your brand of laptop. There may be some help there.
I'm a little surprised that you are having problems with a pcmcia
card. Do you have the pcmcia-cs package installed?
