Sorry if this is a dupe. I got a bounce back from the list server with
this error and I'm hoping it was just a hiccup:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
ubuntu-users at lists.ubuntu.com.
Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 10): 501

Now, on to my question. :o)
After much Googling, wiki-ing and irc-ing, Jeff Waugh finally informed
me that I probably wouldn't be able to install Hoary on this machine
because of the SATA stuff. I downloaded and burned a copy of Breezy
Colony 2 and it indeed finds my DVD/CDRW drive (which Hoary didn't),
but it doesn't recognize the SATA hard drive in the machine. After
more Googling, wiki-ing and irc-ing, I haven't been able to find a
solution for this yet. Luckily I DID figure out how to mount my USB
thumb drive to save some log info. Machine basics are:
Toshiba Portege S100, Intel Centrino and 1.73Ghz processor, 60Gb SATA
HDD, 512Mb RAM, ATA (presumably) DVD/CDRW.
I grabbed dmesg, lspci, and messages, partman and syslog from the
/var/log directory and threw them up here:

I'm guessing some modules need to be loaded manually, but I'm not sure
where to start. Any suggestions?
