Hauppauge WinTV-GO tuner with Ubuntu?

this is slowly driving me insane, i've been at it for 7 hours straight
today. I'm one step away from throwing the thing out the window and
buying a better supported Digital tuner.

notice their cat /proc/asound/pcm lists:



01-00: Bt87x Digital : Bt87x Digital : capture 1

01-01: Bt87x Analog : Bt87x Analog : capture 1



Mine shows:
