Network connection

i don't quite get your problem: there are two routers (your's and your
neighbours), to which you can connect via wireless with you mac.. and
you have wired connection to your router. ubuntu can connect to your
router via wireless and wire, but not to your neighbours?!

your ubuntu machine is connected via ethernet to your router as is your
mac (?!) the mac's internet is working fine, but the ubuntu's not?! what
are the respective settings for the network on each box or are they
configured via dhcp? what is the traceroute output from ubuntu and from
your mac?

please post some more information on your setup.. oh, and check whether
the dns lookup works fine on ubuntu (use '$ nslookup www.google.com' to
check wether the address gets resolved properly and how long it takes;
then put the ip in your brower and see how fast/slow the page loades..)
