| There are mailing lists, irc channels, google, FAQ's, Howto's... But
| like all things in the OSS world, nothing comes without a price. Be
| prepared to read, ask questions and above all get frustrated, pissed
| off and scream and hollar =)

| I end up doing the latter things first then I get smart and start
| reading the FAQ's and Howto's...
What for Ubuntu the friendly distribution ?
Some told me about lokkit, so I installed lokkit, with no GUI
although one exists, and invoked it in the shell.
Then I just had to move one little star with the space bar,
use the tab keyboard to go to "ok" option, and that was it.
I selected the high security out of 3 options.
The ports: on my muchine, little time after install, Hoary appeared to
be perfectly closed, no unuseful port opened. Someone was nice enough to
check from outside
for me.

There is a soft out of distribution, called Bastille Linux, to configure
iptables and firerules and learn at same time, but I didn't try it yet.
I must be installed from the source maybe, or alien from rpm, I'm not
quite sure.

What if someone get stocked ? incase you get stocked with the GUI one
day, good to know to connect the web from text mode, and to use irssi to
get the chan. I sometimes use irssi in the Terminal, the console in the
GUI, for fun, and not to forget how to do:
$irssi
/connect irc.freenode.net 6667
/join #ubuntu (or for me, #ubuntu-fr)

Best greetings, J.Markoll.
