I cannot login in after a fresh install, don't know root password, and it never asked me to create a user

yes, you can try this :

vi /etc/shadow (where vi can be replaced by nano or joe etc.)

root:$1*&^#@&^%&^@%#$&^%&@^#%$:12885:0:99999:7:::

remove the characters between the first colon and the second colon, and
put an asterix there instead, like this 

root:*:12885:0:99999:7:::
