I cannot login in after a fresh install, don't know root password, and it never asked me to create a user

Not what I meant. I mean why aren't more distro's adopting the
mentality to disable the root account and force sudo usage by default.
Since I am new to Ubuntu I totally ignored this and set the root
password because that's what I've been doing since 1997... =) Old
habits die hard!
