As a result of this thread (or the original one, more like), for the
first time in many months, I've rebooted to XP. I'm not too fussed
about the bootup time, either way it's slow enough that I go to the
kitchen to get some coffee. But firefox really was faster to startup,
open new tabs, etc. in XP. And this is a well lived-in XP, I'd been
using it for over 4 years and I install/uninstall a lot of stuff.
The title for the thread wasn't too far off the mark for me, I really
did get surprised that XP was faster with some stuff. Then again, I
start the heavy programs usually just once per day, so I guess it's not
a big deal either, as long as they run efficiently.
