Timidity doesnt run as deamon

Dows it gove you some output? There are a few things that will not start
by default because they need proper configuration. Usually there is a
variable set in /etc/default/$servicename (which is used by the
initscript) for these services to prevent them from starting. So check
out the initscript and /etc/default/$servicename
