That's why I always rely on find instead of locate. Locate quickly tells
you if a file is on the system unless it's been created since the last
updatedb or...
find is slow but works on more Unices and tells you what *is* there, not
what it thinks is there.
whereis, which and apropos won't help in the posited situation where
Adobe Reader has been installed outside the search paths and man search
paths.
