Sound card test?

Some kind person gave me a Dell "Dimension 8100" recently.  I'm using it now 
and everything seems fine except ....  sound.

The loudspeakers work OK from my portable radio's output plug, so they are (at 
least more-or-less) OK.  KsCD makes all the right gestures indicating that a 
music CD is playing, so that is probably OK, too.
I have tried connecting to every plug on the "sound card" without success.

So ...  how could I test to see if that sound card is working and complete the 
CD->sound app->loudspeakers circuit?
