Performance shock

When I installed Ubuntu I measured the start up times 

That is with Ooo quiskstart dissabled  windows is loading a virus
scanner at boot and firewall Ubuntu no viruscanner but needs typing of
username and password here the results



Windows 98    -    Ubuntu

boot                        1min2                1min5

openoffice                20sec               21sec

Firefox                       5sec                  6sec

Gimp                        12sec                7sec        



its pretty much the same

what I noticed was the the response in firefox was slow like open new
tab

I found this info somewhere

type about:config into the address bar & check the line:

network.dns.disableIPv6



Value needs to be set to "true" 





I did that and it was still draggy oppening new tabs not loading stuff
from the net



I edited my /etc/hosts file and outcommented all of these
