Not with a little tweak:
open OOo writer, and go to Extras -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> Memory
-> Memory for OpenOffice.org and set it to some sane value (128mb in my
case. 30 should do it, to).
Although  it says its for Graphics you'll see a very big speed up in
using and starting OOo.

Don't worry if your translations are different since I back translated
from German ;) You should find your way.
