BenjyD, thanks for the reply. It still did not work. Here is what i
did:
1. Downloaded the 2.6.11.7 kernel source, used your .config and
compiled it.
2. Removed any linux-restricted-modules and xorg-driver-fglrx packages
3. Generated the initrd, configured lilo, booted up with the new
kernel:
Linux illuminati 2.6.11.7 #1 Sat Apr 23 02:00:09 UTC 2005 i686
GNU/Linux
4. Got the fglrx 8.10.19 rpm from ATI, transformed it into .deb:
fglrx-6-8-0_8.10.19-2_i386.deb and installed it
5. When i wen to compile the module in /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod, I
had errors in the compilation, After googling around, i found the
following thread which described the same errors I had:
http://www.rage3d.net/board/showthread.php?t=33806492
According the the thread, you had to patch the fglrx source so that it
would compile on 2.6.11. I dont know if you had to do this or not, but
with me it would only compile after applying the two patches described
in the thread: http://www.hot.ee/amurde/p1.patch and
http://www.hot.ee/amurde/p2.patch.
6. After applying the patch, "sh make.sh" worked fine and so did "sh
make_install.sh".
7. Modprobed the fglrx module:
[fglrx] Maximum main memory to use for locked dma buffers: 805 MBytes.
[fglrx] module loaded - fglrx 8.10.19 [Feb 9 2005] on minor 0
8. Copied your xorg.conf directly over my /etc/X11/xorg.conf, with no
changes
9. Started X, and got the 1680x1050 resolution, but with the
flickering. I also get this flickering at other resolutions
(1280x1024, 1024x768) when using the fglrx driver. I'd think my screen
was broken, but it works fine at 1680x1050 in windows. Amid the
flickering, i was able to run fgl_glxgears, and got the same FPS you
said. Here is what fglrxinfo says:
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: MOBILITY RADEON X700 Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3.4893 (X4.3.0-8.10.19)
I rebooted and tried again. Same thing.
I could not post my Xorg.0.log here because the forum says it is too
big - if you want, i can send it to you by email. If I could just get
rid of that flickering, everything would work :(
Thank you!
