Hi,

I've purchased a TravelMate 8014WLMI, and am having lots of trouble
getting X to work at 1680x1050 - i am using hoary 5.04. I've read all
the posts in this thread, and researched around on the web, but still
cant get it right. This is the scenario, and any help is very much
appreciated:

* The vesa driver works in xorg and xfree86, but only at 1280x1024
and no accel

* With xorg, i tried adding the "MonitorLayout" options that people
described and forcing the ChipID to 0x3150 and others... Only works if
you force the ChipID (otherwise says no screen found) to 0x3150 or
0x3e50.it fires up in 1680x1050, but with this horrible flicker that
basically makes it impossible to use. This is with the
xorg-drivers-fglrx package installed, which is the ati driver version
8.8.25.

* I then tried using the drivers directly from ATI... removed the
xorg-drivers-fglrx package, downloaded the RPM from ATI, used alien to
conver it to a .deb, and installed it. Followed the instructions for
compiling the kernel module. It didnt work either - i tried with two
versions from the ATI page - 8.10.19 and 8.12.10:

- 8.10.19: basically the same results as with 8.8.25... X starts,
but with screen flicker.

- 8.12.10: does not work, it blanks the screen, doesnt even do
flickering or nothing.

* I also tried using Xfree instead of xorg, but with no results.

* Ive configured it using dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and
fglrxconfig, neither produced working results (even after adding
MonitorLayout options, and so on).

I basically dont know what else to try. Ive already tried many
xorg.conf configurations, and i feel that im almost there - if only the
flicker would go away.

What i dont understand is that there are other people that have posted
here that have the exact same model, and only by changing the xorg.conf
options everything worked, but it didnt for me.....

... anyway, all help is very appreciated !
