my dvd/cdrw combo doesn't recogonize any dvd disks

I tried both Video DVD and Data DVD. Neither of them can be recognized
by my DVD/CDRM combo drive. By the way, I am using thinkpad T40. The
device manager says it is UJDA745 DVD/CDRW.
