Looking at the specs for the Acer Travelmate 230 it seems that it has an
Intel 845 Video chip. Others have mentioned problems with this chipset
on the list before. Have a look through the archives. Maybe one of the
ubuntu devs can tell of their experience with running the live CD's on
this kind of hardware. Maybe a boot paramater just needs to be passed.
Personally all my experience with live CD's has been on Nvidia based
equipment and has not be terribly successful. (All my attempts were made
using the Warty Live CD). I suspect an install of Hoary could be made to
work on his hardware, but doing that via email could be problematic.

Don't worry I went to a public school and I have heard them all before.
For those that don't know the connection you obviously haven't seen the
movie Porkys. Fortunately the crowd I hang around with are not the kind
of people that watch those kind of movies. Anyhow sounds like he had a
nice bottle of plonk and a chuckle at my expense. :-)
Let me know how you get on. I do travel down south on occasion to a
little town called Dunsbourough. Given the wine he was drinking he
couldn't live to far away from where I normally stay. Maybe he could
share a drop or two of his favourite vintage and I could make puns about
his name :-)
