Incorrect. Ubuntu does not let seem to offer debs for Java, but OOo
is enabled for it. I am using Base right now, which requires Java. I
downloaded the binary installer from Sun and installed it. Then I
added Java to my path. OOo2 recognized my Java installation
automatically, and works fine.
So, you can't get Java, but you can get OOo2 to work with JAva without
a recompile.
