Firefox 1.03?

the debian way is to packport the fixes to the old version

ie
if ubuntu hoary ships with firefox 1.0.2
and there is a security fix release 1.0.3 from mozilla
then ubnutu will use the changes to put the fixes into 1.0.2 and release this as 1.0.2-ubuntu1

this is often done quicker than the new version.

it can be confusing when mozilla say '1.0.3 fixes problems in 1.0.2', mostly you can trust the ubuntu/debian people to fix bugs like this.

another example, is that the gnome 2.10 release that shipped with hoary contains many fixes by the ubuntu/debian developers. these fixes get sent back 'upstream' to gnome, and merged back into the main gnome, which is now at version 2.10.1 and contains the fixes.

it is a bit more complicated because there are some developers who are part of both projects.

basically fixes come from all over the place in the open source world. then they move upstream or down stream, and fairly quick get into the well maintained distibutions, even though the version numbers may not change.
