Laptop Questions

I have found hdparm commands to solve this for me. The best way is to
send the command from the terminal: sudo hdparm -S 12 (this changes
spin-down to 1 minute). hdparm supplies feedback confirming the change.
I have noticed on mine that if I plug in the power cord, the spin-down
time is reset to the default short value. I've also tried adding the -S
flag to my hdparm.conf file with mixed results (-S12 /dev/hda). It
changes the spin-down time, but coughs up a separator error on boot.
This is probably a syntax error on my part, I'm a relative newbie to
Linux.
I'm using a Dell Latitude CPx with Hoary.
