I don't think this has anything to do with w32codecs! Just install
"libmad0" as it handles all 3 type of MPEG1 audio which seems you're
having trouble with.

Tell us if this fixes your problem.
(Older Xine packages used an *internal* libmad (statically linked) while
newer versions (like the one in Hoary) uses the external libmad when
available (it's suggested only, not a dependent of "libxine1").)
