Yes, I am using genome. This list has brought to my attention some of
the lightweight window managers such as ice, fv and flux. I've visited
their respective sites and in the long term will want to try one of
these out. For now I've decidedd to
stick with genome and trim down as much as possible. Locking down
firefox was easy. I've specified the URL
in firefox so it automatically loads. And I've removed the location bar
also so a user won't be tempted to try out anything
else.
This is my fourth attempt to customize genome switcingh between the
default and base-installations. I've removed a lot of
options from the applications and the computer settings as well as from
the desktop panel as my understanding of Ubuntu gradually develops
during the two weeks.
With firefox very much taken care of, I now turn my attention to
customizing genome.
I have deleted a lot of icons from the panel and removed some of the
menus from application and computer settings.
However, I notice that a knowledgeable user can still add options to the
panels.
I also notice the Run dialogue box from the Applications menu from which
a knowledgeable user can issue
commands. I want to disable those two features.
Ctrl+Alt+Del has been disabled already.
Once again, I appreciate all the assistance given so far in this
important project at my University.
The support has been awesome.
