Mplayer in Hoary?

I checke about a dozen differents gui libraries (gtk+, lgi, fltk, etc), 
and still can't find my match...

I need either a small light-weight that I'll statically link or some 
bigger and maybe more reliable one that i am almost sure will already be 
present of any graphical linux. And no, I dont want to directly use the 
X widget nor framebuffer.

What are you guys using?
