slow NFS

I mounted my main box (running SUSE 9.3) from Ubuntu 5.04 on my test box
via NFS, but the transfer speed is shockingly slow (~50K/s).  scp
transfers are plenty fast, and if I boot SUSE on the test box, NFS is
fast like a bullet.  Might I have a misconfiguration somewhere?
