2-6-11 kernel problems

Hi,
I am using Kubuntu with the latest kernel from the multiverse  :

Linux ubuntu 2.6.11-1-686 #1 Fri Feb 11 15:59:02 UTC 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

I've noticed that whenever i run an `sudo apt-get install` the sytem
freezes and the only way for me to get out of it is a nasty power off
and on.
I am using the line `i8042.noacpi=1` since my keyboard wasnt detected
when i boot and this was the workaround i found on the forums.

I've also noticed that artsd sometimes causes the kernel to freeze
especially when im using amarok to play my music.

I have a dell Inspiron Laptop 1100.

Any one else notice these problems ?
