No sound via ESD

Since upgrading to Hoary, I can't get any sound via ESD. When I put my
settings to ALSA then things work fine, which is great for apps like
Rhythmbox, Totem, etc. however, Gaim doesn't have an option for ALSA,
only ESD or ARTS - neither of which work. So I have no sound in Gaim.

When I try to test ESD in the gstreamer-properties, I get a "failed to
construct pipeline" error.

I have gstreamer0.8-esd and libesd0 installed.

Any clues? Thank you.
