What if the partition you want to resize is the root filesystem? gparted
won't work on a mounted FS...

What I did was to reboot to the install CD and fired up a shell. The
parted and ntfsresize were availalbe on the commandline.

Also, the partition I want to grow is reiserfs, I want to expand it
beyond its end (easy with reiser, just fdisk the partition using the
same start block and reiserfs_resize) as well as extending it before its
first block (i.e., "to the left"). parted (at least in hoary) doesn't
seem to like reiserfs.

Any options? Is there a liveCD out there that can handle this task?
