Important info is in your examples

you have things which are not correctly installed or
unfinished.

 2 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.

Unsure but it seems it wants you to force the purge

update-rc.d: /etc/init.d/xfree86-common exists
during rc.d purge (use -f to force)


I would try 

apt-get update
apt-get -f upgrade

man apt-get shows
 -f, --fix-broken  are the same option
