I hope not. Debian is a great project, and Ubuntu was possible because
of it. And Ubuntu will continue to be possible for its future releases
because of Debian.  Ubuntu/Canonical simply doesn't have the
infrastructure and manpower to be on its own and maintain the 15000
packages Debian carries.  So Ubuntu will continue to be "based on
Debian" because every 6 months,  when Ubuntu resync most of itself to
the latest Debian sid,  it is once again based on Debian.  I think
Ubuntu should be proud of that continously renewed heritage.
