How to kill gam_server

Ok, in Warty it was easy enough to kill FAM and prevent it from ever
loading, but with Hoary, gamin is another story.

Kill process from system monitor, it just returns. No rc script for
gam_server to delete. If I attempt to dpkg -r gamin it wants to remove
too many other packages.

Perhaps if I had a smallish directory, it would pose a problem, but
when most of my folders contain 1000's upon 1000's of items, file
browsing becomes a daunting task.

Even with 1.5gb of RAM and a 2800ghz CPU gam_server acts just as bad,
if not worse than fam.
