Boot Problems

I had used "sudo dd ......" in the past to make a backup of my
partition before upgrading to hoary. i then upgraded to hoary and had
some problems. i wanted to restore it. so i did the "sudo dd ......"
thing in reverse. Now, however, I have a problem. My system is not
booting properly.
When booting, after the normal stuff --- just after:
> Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.
> Starting Ubuntu...
I get:
> * cannot execute "/etc/init.d/rcS"
> * Entering runlevel: 2
> * cannot execute "/etc/init.d/rc"
>
> /dev/hdb1 / ext3 rw,errors=remount-(none) login:

It should be noted that no keyboard input is accepted (not even
ctrl,alt,delete).

Also, if any replies could be sent to this e-mail address
(mathbymath at aol.com), I would appreciate it. I am currently in the
process of fixing two computers and am stuck using a very old computer
that I do not have enough time accessing to look through all of my
e-mail. I should have them all running by next Monday. At that point
I hope to resubscribe tp this list (I have currently suspended all
e-mails directly from the list). Also, hopefully, I will be able to
help some new people that actually have questions that I understand
well enough to help with.

Again, thanks to EVERYONE for their help and I LOVE Ubuntu (altho I
have not properly been acquainted with Hoary yet).

~Matt
