Hi,

you're lucky, hoary has it's own built-in vnc-like remote desktop
application, so no need to install additional vnc.

You can configure it via "system - settings - remote desktop". Then
right-click on the gnome panel, and add the terminal server client applet.
>From there you or your friend can start a connection.

free account at dyndns.org.
