Selecting USB sound device

Hello,
I have a laptop (Packard Bell R4340, Intel Celeron M) with a built-in AC'97
soundchip. I also have an external USB sound device, a Creative Soundblaster
MP3+ which is attached to my hifi-set. In Windows this all works well, and
my USB Soundblaster becomes the default sound device as soon as I plug it
in, and that's what I expect it to do.
Yesterday I installed Ubuntu Hoary, and it detects my external USB
soundblaster. I can even change its volume in the Volume Control (so I
expect it to work), but I can't find any way to select it as the default
sound device for ESD/Alsa/Gstreamer/whatever. I really expect a simple way
to do this without using the terminal and 'sudo -s' to make changes to the
configuration.
Is there a simple gui-tool to switch between sounddevices?
