Upgraded to Hoary, latest kernel won't boot

Since I haven't seen any responses, I thought I would say what else
I've tried. (I'm open to any suggestions!)
I have a CD I burned in mid-March of the preview of the Hoary Live CD.
I think it uses a similar kernel, but I'm not certain. The live CD
fails in a similar way as the regular Hoary kernel, so I tried booting
it using the live-expert option. It gets to the "Detect and Mount
CD-ROM" menu item, where it presents a list with about 20 modules
selected. When I accept that list with all the modules it starts
inserting modules. When it gets to the point of inserting the ide-cd
module, it hangs.
I rebooted under the Warty 2.6.8-1-4-386 kernel, and here is what the
lspci and lsmod commands say:
