How to Cure Fuzzy Xorg Display?

Hi,

I've had a nearly similar phenomenon on my acer travelmate last week (intel
810 chipset). I tried to configure X, but nothing worked.

Then - perhaps as a kind frustrated actionism of "I have no idea, what to do,
so I reinstall the os, perhaps it was my fault" ;-) - I tried the
installation for a 2nd time.

Then I run directly from within the installation process the update operation
(DSL) ... I think, that I've seen "something X-like" then, which was
installed during the update, i.a.w. an X.org-package. From the 1st login,
ubuntu worked fine with GDM and Gnome.

I don't know, if that's the reason, it's just a pure speculation...

By the way: Did you run the online-update during the installation?
