The driver is for the graphics card, not the monitor.
For my nvidia graphics card, I installed nvidia-glx and nvidia-settings from
the repositories using synaptic. Then, in a terminal, run,
sudo nvidia-glx-config enable
Check that the xf86 config file in /etc/X11/ has the setting Driver "nvidia"
and not Driver "nv". If it has, edit it to read "nvidia"
Then log out, log back in and you will be using the nvidia driver. That should
correct the problem.
It has with my Hoary installation, and it took me about three minutes to do
the change.
