new to Ubunutu/Kubuntu -- Kcontrol Administrator problems

Hello all! I'm a long time debian user giving Kubuntu a try. I'm not
sure if this is the place to post Kubuntu problems or not, but I'm not
able to enter Administrator Mode withing Kcontrol. I am a member of
the admin group. When I hit the Administrator Mode button, It asks for
my passwd, then it returns to it's original screen; buttons and such
are greyed out (I do not have access).

any ideas on this one? I'm running Hoary on ppc (ibook) installed yesterday.
