Stuck in 640x480 on upgrade

I just did the upgrade from warty to hoary following the instructions on

the web http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/HoaryUpgradeNotes
Everything went fine, and I rebooted and the xserver seemed to work so I
skipped the part about reconfiguring the xserver.

Upon shutdown and startup the next day I'm stuck with only one
resolution 640x480 60 Hz(was 1024x768 80Hz prev.). So I ran sudo
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and it ever setting seems fine so reboot
and I still have no other options for my resolution in the
(System->Pref->Resolution, on the default Gnome).

What happened, it was working and isn't now and I'll I did was a shutdown?

Thanks,
Alex
