Hi all,

With the release coming up soon, I have been testing out Hoary on 3
completly different machines a whole bunch, using them as my both my
primary workstations and as a server. Here are some of the outstanding
issues I have found thus far. I just took all the screenshots this
evening, so these issues still happen as of today with all the latest
updates.

All machines:

* mplayer, mplayer-plugin, and vlc do not play any sound whatsoever.

* mozilla-flashplugin plays no sound and is does not seem to totally work
** a screenshot of http://www.macromedia.com/ where the menu has no
menu entries, the text does not show up, not sure if this is a
firefox or
        flashplayer issue
        *** http://www.simplifiedcomplexity.com/images/brokenflashscreenshot.png

* firefox crashes sometimes when viewing a page where mplayerplugin is running.

* firefox freaks out sometimes when mplayer plugin is running and I
try to close the window
    ** http://www.simplifiedcomplexity.com/images/mplayerplugin-freakinout.png

* gmplayer crashes
** kill didn't work had to kill -9 it

Other that these things, my main machine is generally working pretty
good. I know the media players are "unsupported" but many people are
going to want to use them.

2nd No name machine

* I am still affected by this bug:
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=7439

* Every time I reboot the machine I have to cycle through the consoles
then on con7 gnome will show up. This is not only for the live cd, I
installed Hoary on the machine so it affects the real install as well.

3rd machine with an AMD 1GHz TBird, 512MB RAM, ATI All-In-Wonder Rage
128 pro using the oss ati driver, SB Live!:

* Screensaver comes on fine, when unlocking the screen the mouse
pointer it flat black. Performing a few operations turns it white
again but it is all pixelated. The mouse pointer does not return to
normal until after a reboot/restart of X.

* The install picks the wrong sound device, it picks the on board
sound(Cirrus Logic CS4297) and it should pick the SoundBlaster Live!

* When playing sound from the onboard sound it comes out really low.

* I manually selected the SB card and the sound is working better now.
But the PCM still gets turned down really low every time I reboot it.

Ok, so it seems like there are a few sound issues that need to be
worked out, a few non "critical" X issues, and well
mplayer/flash/firefox issues that need some attention.

On a better note, the "supported" stuff is working quite well. My
scanner works, my digital camera works, USB key works, USB printer
works, external firewire cd-rw works, networking stuff works, wireless
mouse and keyboard work, totem with xine works and plays dvd's, VMware
5 Beta RC3 works, Rhythmbox plays my tunes(including mp3's), java
plugin for firefox works, and most everything else I have tried is
working very well.

All in all, its looking good, but a few more kinks need to ironed out
(on my 3 machines anyway)

Thanks,

Matt
