AFAIK there have been a ouple of such studies here in Germany in the 
last years.

LIVE, Linux Verband, Germany may be an interesting point to get in 
contact / get information from and about (not only small) companies 
which are using Free Software desktop systems.

LIVE is an association of Linux Companies here in Germany
