Mine has exactly the same problem as yours.
$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/cards/0
Model: GeForce4 MX 440
IRQ: 16
Video BIOS: 04.17.00.61.23
Card Type: AGP
$ cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Disabled
AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput
of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file
for additional information on this problem.
And not just KDE (I tried konqueror in Gnome and it locks up).
This also happens when I surf some URLs using latest mozilla-firefox
1.0.2 where
the whole system locks up. For example go to this URL:
http://tinyurl.com/3hofk
and click URL link on the page:
commons
-> the system locks up.
See the bug I entered into bugzilla:
http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8661
