[off topic] Linux on laptop and all FLOSS?

Before I bough mine last spring, I did a thourough search for  howtos
for running linux on any particular model (or similar model) that I
have been considering.  As it turns out I found howtos for several
different distros for the brand/model I chose.

This ensures 2 things
(1) it's possible to get linux up & running on that particular
notebook, becaus others have done it before you
(2) there will be a howto to guide you through the process.

For what it's worth although there may not be an Unbuntu-specific
howto for a given situation, Debian howtos are usually a close second.
