How to keep my Hoary up-to-date

The hoary installed on my laptop was installed via Warty upgrade, and
my desktop was installed with the latest Hoary installation CD. Both
computers are updated on a daily basis.
I notice that some changes are not applied to my laptop, for example
 * The Ubuntu Update program is auto loaded on startup on my desktop,
but not my laptop.
 * The splash screen (when enter gnome) is often updated on my
desktop, but not my laptop.

I know some of these changes can be done manually, but is there an
easier way to make my laptop synchronize with the latest settings of
Hoary?
