I've noticed that also.  It seems some apps use su-to-root instead of
gksudo in the /usr/lib/menu entry.  I filed a bugzilla entry (#8522) on
this against synaptic, but bugzilla wouldn't let me file one against
qtparted (maybe it only covers packages in main).

su-to-root asks for root's password, and on a default Ubuntu
installation, the root user doesn't exist.  I suspect that some other
packages may also have this problem.
